"Madeline said she grew up in the San Fernando Valley and has lived in Simi Valley for four years.
“The part of Simi where we live is all mountains,” she said. “I like to go horseback riding with my brothers. We climb trees and run around, and we live on a cul-de-sac, so other kids come and we all play kickball.” Madeline, an actress since she was very young, has been home-schooled for the past two years because “middle school is hard on you when you get pulled out all the time for auditions,” she said, but hopes to attend a real high school this year as a freshman. “We might be moving back to the valley, and I really want to go to high school. People tell me how fun it is, but I’m nervous about it,” she said." ... read more ... Ventura County Star |

SheKnows: What was it like working alongside Callan? You guys spend most of the movie side-by-side.
Madeline Carroll: It was fantastic. It was like summer camp. On set, we’re in 1960s clothes in a 1960s-type school. It was like playing dress up all the time. When we’d leave, Rob would only go till about 6 pm, we would all go out to dinner. We would all hang out, play basketball. All the kids were really cool and really nice and down to earth. We just had fun all the time. Working with Callan was amazing. We would [laughs] bicker back and forth in a friendly way. He would always say words really weird because he’s Australian. [Laughs] Instead of right away, he’d say, "Straight away." He’d use all these fancy Australian words, it was really confusing. SheKnows: Your parents in the movie are really some acting veterans. What did you take away from them in terms of performing in the movies? Madeline Carroll: Penelope Ann Miller and Aidan Quinn were unbelievable. They were the ones I hung around with the most. I still hang out with them now, long after we shot the movie. They’re really big actors and they’re not mean or anything! I was nervous to see what they’d be like. They all have kids. Aidan Quinn was in one of my favorite movies of all time, Legends of the Fall. I love that movie. Meeting him, I was excited and nervous because I didn’t know what he was going to be like. I learned from them, no matter how much you do, always be nice and you’ll keep working [laughs]. ... read more ... She Knows |

How do you deal with auditions and rejection? A lot of times when I was younger and I really wanted a role and got close, it would stink really bad not to get it. I would get my hopes up and it just wouldn’t come through, but I always think that God has something in store for everybody, and I would just pray about it. I actually passed on a big move before Flipped and nothing had come along, so I was like, “Oh God, please let me get something.” Then Flipped came, and it was really exciting and cool to be able to do a movie like this. It’s been such a pleasure to work with people like Rob Reiner and John Mahoney. I hope everybody likes this movie, because these are the kind of movies I’d like to continue to make. Rob’s done all these great films from Stand By Me to The Princess Bride to When Harry Met Sally to Misery, and all these movies still get watched today. It’s not like they were some big blockbuster hit and then they were gone — people are still watching and loving his movies. I hope Flipped is one of those movies. Are you going in there and auditioning with the same actresses over and over? Is that a bonding experience or can it be competitive? I wouldn’t say “competitive”… it’s just like you go in and do your best, and then they pick whoever’s right for it. I definitely see the same girls over and over, but a lot of the girls, I’m actually friends with. Ever since I was six, I’ve seen the same people. I’d imagine that you go up for a lot of the same roles as Chloe Moretz. I used to see Chloe a lot, but we’re two different looks. I have dark hair and pale skin and she’s blond — we look different. But yeah, Chloe’s really, really sweet. I haven’t seen her much lately, since usually we get called in for different things because of what we look like. ... read more ... MovieLine |

Los Angeles - Despite her young age, Madeline Carroll already has a pretty impressive resume. In the mid-2000s she debuted as a preteen star in many Hollywood blockbusters like “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” and played opposite of Kevin Costner in “Swing Vote.”
Her latest film, the coming-of-age romantic comedy Flipped directed Rob Reiner, follows two young lovers, Bryce and Juli, from grade school to junior high as they make the discoveries that will define who they are, as well as who they are to each other. [source] |

Madeline, did you listen to music to get into character at all?
Madeline Carroll: Typically I listen to a lot of music from nowadays. I didn't really listen to any music until I had the fitting. When I had the fitting, we kept playing all that music, and it was so much fun to hear all the different songs and sounds. The music back then was awesome but so different from today. Who are some of your favorite artists? Madeline Carroll: I really liked the ending song—"Let It Be Me." I also like Lady Gaga. Rob Reiner: I like Lady Gaga too! ... read more ... Artist Direct |

Madeline Carroll will grace the big screen more than once this year. In January, Madeline was seen in the film THE SPY NEXT DOOR starring Jackie Chan. In August, Madeline plays the lead in a film called FLIPPED. “It’s directed by Rob Reiner, set in the 60s, it’s kind of like STAND BY ME, a little bit. It’s a poor girl, she likes the rich boy but he doesn’t like her back,” she explained to us. “It’s really cool how it’s done, it will show one scene through the boy’s eyes, then again through the girl’s eyes, your going to love it.” Madeline plays the girl named Juli. “Juli is a girl who hasn’t ever had anything handed to her. She loves life and the smaller things. Really cool, down-to-earth girl. I think a lot of kids could relate to her.” FLIPPED will be in limited theatres on August 6th and nationwide on August 27th. Madeline definitely isn’t new to the acting world, so we asked her what advice she has for young girls and boys who are interested in getting into acting. “Make sure you really like it because it takes up a lot of time and if you don’t really like it, don’t do it. There is a lot of devastation as well. If you don’t get a part that you really want, you’re going to be upset, but always remember there is a part for everybody so keep at it,” she told us with confidence. “It’s like other things, just like sports, you have to practice to make it perfect, it’s the same thing with acting.” Great advice coming from a girl who is only 14 years old! What’s next for Madeline? “I am filming a movie with Gerard Butler called MACHINE GUN PREACHER. It’s so much fun, Gerard is awesome, and hot,” she said laughing. Although MACHINE GUN PREACHER isn’t set to release until next year, we are already excited to see it, Madeline! Fun fact about Madeline: “I can touch my nose with my tongue.” Dream Magazine |
